Understanding Men’s Therapeutic Needs
I have gained great insight about the unique needs of men in therapy through my involvement with men’s groups since 2003, and my work as a therapist with hundreds of men in a wide variety of settings for over two decades.
Men must often navigate specific challenges and societal expectations that can strongly impact their relationships, mental health, and well being. I strive to create a safe and supportive space for male clients to explore their emotions and ways of relating, and work toward personal
growth.
Openness as a Strength
Many men grow up believing that seeking support is a sign of weakness or fragility. I challenge this attitude and establish an environment in which receiving support is experienced as strength and depth, rather than weakness. Openness accompanied by healthy boundaries leads to more strength, emotional flexibility, and maturity. I have yet to meet a well-balanced man who arrived there on his own.
Shifting Old Patterns
Many men have experienced trauma and emotional wounding, negatively affecting mental health and hindering relationships. I offer solid and supportive, trauma-informed therapy to help male clients process past experiences, shift old unwanted patterns, and grow a more compassionate understanding of themselves.
